Our Commitment

As a small business we understand that not only do we have the privilege to care for children but also the privilege to impact our community. We recognise that the decisions we make can leave a footprint on the children we care for, people we employee, community we are placed in and the environment.

In order to recognise our responsibility, we have created ‘our commitment statement’. This will be reviewed yearly, and we will reflect on our successes and areas where we can improve.

Our Commitment

Testimonials

All children are making progress from their individual starting points. Children receive well- planned and individualised care from a nurturing and committed staff team. It was clear from observations that staff know the children well and carefully manage children’s individual daily routines.

Ofsted 2023

Staff speak to children about their care needs. As a result, children are listened to, and this helps staff provide children with individualised daily care. One child said, ‘It’s like living in a normal home but better. They care and talk to me about things.’

Ofsted 2023

Staff support children’s individual educational needs. Staff are ambitious for children and advocate on their behalf to ensure that they have an education placement. One child had been out of education for a significant period. The manager worked with education professionals to address this and the child is now attending school on a regular basis, where she is making progress.

Ofsted 2023

Staff promote children’s individual health needs. Children are supported to attend the necessary health appointments. One child has been supported to significantly improve their health. A professional said, ‘They have been amazing, they invited me in straight away to provide extensive training to staff, to support [name of child]’s health needs. It is the first time I haven’t worried about [name of child]. I am more than happy with the care they are being provided with. Their health has improved as a result.’

Ofsted 2023

Children living in the home are happy and settled. Staff care for children with empathy and warmth and develop strong and trusting relationships with the children to enable them to feel safe and secure. Staff reflect on how they interact with the children. They adapt their practice to meet the children’s needs and use alternative communication styles for each child. This means that children can express themselves in a manner that they feel comfortable with.

Ofsted 2024

Staff develop good working relationships with children’s families and those important to them. Parents and family members are updated on a regular basis and staff work in partnership with them to support children. One parent commented that her relationship with their child has significantly improved since they moved into this home.

Ofsted 2024

Safeguarding is a strength of the home. Professionals say that staff go above and beyond to safeguard children. Staff have a good understanding of children’s risks and needs in respect of exploitation. The manager is a strong and assertive advocate for children who are at risk in the community. She challenges professionals to ensure that support is provided to children to keep them safe. Robust support plans are developed in partnership with external agencies and professionals. This means that there is a strong multi agency approach to keeping children safe, both in the home and the community.

Employees and children have helped to create our commitments – what is important to them, is important to us!

Commitment One – Our Children

Children will receive high quality care equal to that we expect for our own children. Children will be heard and respected – they will be given opportunity to feedback and have the right to help shape our services.

We will be transparent, if we make mistakes, we will be open and honest about them – most importantly we will learn from them and make sure we understand how to improve. Children deserve to have a childhood, we are committed to creating childhood memories they can look back on and remember their time with fondness.

Every achievement will be celebrated – no matter how big or small. We will capture our children’s strengths, amazingness and resilience to use these as the building blocks for their future.

Children who live with us will be comfortable to be their authentic self. Children will be supported by a team that value peoples differences and celebrate and role model the wonderful uniqueness of individuals.

Commitment two – Our employees

  • We will make an effort to hire from the community where we have our homes, creating opportunity for employment.
  • We will review our pay and benefits to ensure they are fair, transparent and equal to all. We will invest in additional benefits which recognise the needs of our employees and helps them access healthcare and support
  • We will invest in our employees to ensure they feel trained and developed with opportunities to progress in our organisation.
  • Employees will be heard and respected – they will be given opportunity to feedback and have the right to help shape our services.
  • We will be transparent, if we make mistakes, we will be open and honest about them – most importantly we will learn from them and make sure we understand how to improve.
  • We will recognise staffs strengths, talents and skills using these as building blocks for their future.
  • We will ensure homes are environments where the staff can be themselves and will be celebrated for their diffences.
  • We will provide a culture where staff can have fun and enjoy coming to work.

Commitment three – Our community

We understand not everybody wants to live near a ‘children’s home’. We will work with the local communities to change hearts and minds, showing them that our homes are the same as any other home on the street – we will do this by:

  • Being polite, friendly and respectful.
  • Building relationships with our neighbours and developing a sense of community.
  • Being clean and tidy
  • Where possible using local businesses for any external work required.

Commitment four – Our environment

Operating children’s homes – it is our responsibility to not only look after the environment but teach children how to. We will always educate our children and help them to understand the importance of looking after our world. In our homes we will also take steps to:

    Wherever possible:
  • Use energy saving lightbulbs
  • Use recyclable items, paper, stationery
  • Use public transport rather than cars
  • Ensure we leave no litter behind on days out
  • Ensure staff have the facilities to recycle

5. Our charities

Understanding how to help local and national charities is important. We are committed to teaching children about how to help and supporting them to develop a sense of self efficacy and community in the areas that they live. We will take them to food banks to help them understand how even the littlest things can make a big difference, support them to volunteer, donate old clothes and also raise money for causes important to them.

Every year children and staff will nominate two charities important to them. Throughout the year the Homes Manager will support staff and children to fundraise and raise awareness of these charities.

At the end of each year, we will double any money raised during these events.
